Thrifty Green

{Salvation Army Cotton Chic High Waist Slacks ($7.98), Arden B Romper ($40.00)   Salvation Army Nine West pumps ($10.99), Michael Kors Watch, Charming Charlie Pearl Necklace ($30)

So I haven't blogged in awhile and since today I thrifted into work, I decided to share my work fit for today! While it's still nice out... I decided to get creative and turn my romper into a shirt. Wow, that green thing is yes indeed a two-piece romper.
See told you...

Think Outside the the Norm: As I took more than the needed hours in my closet this morning, I decided to turn my romper into a shirt! I knew high-waist pants always go well with ruffles, so why not? I chose a pair of my high-waisted brown skinny leg slacks to compliment my green romper. Now, how did I manage to get my slacks over my romper? Easy, being that my slacks were a size bigger than my normal size- it fell in line perfectly. I figured my pearl choker would be a perfect ending piece to my creation along with my 4" bronze Nine West pumps (which was also thrifted for $10.99)

Today was such a fantastic, quick thinking, go "Green" Day! ;-)

High Waist:My Taste...
Today's look I went for simple yet classy. I woke up feeling excited so I decided to dress that same way. I went through my closet to pull out my white H&M tank top, which can be purchased at www.hm.com for $7.95. One of my most favorite type of pants are "high-waist" pants or shorts. Why? I'll tell you why- high waist pants/shorts reveals your curves like no other! My favorite pair of high-waist pants are my $7 Levi slacks that I picked up from the Salvation Army. What a steal! These light blue perfect fitting slacks can turn any outfit into a masterpiece creation.

I decided to spice it up by throwing on my Zara 4 inch heeled orange sandals for a splash of color. These shoes can be purchased from Zara.com for $79.95, and the material on these shoes are amazing! Sometimes you have to change your look up. I decided to wear a back, low bun with this outfit because I really wanted people to notice my high waist pants. I wore my hair in a messy ball at the back for more suitable appearance and also for the hair trends of today. (Hair pinned up will also work) Next time you want to spice up your work day, throw on a pair of high-waist pants with a pair of bright colorful heels to ensure some spark in your day!

Sincerely,

Simplicity

Simplicity...
Let me first start out by saying this, labels do not define people. Yes a popular name brand may look appealing to the outside eye, but in reality it's just a name. The fabric, the texture, and the pattern can simply be from one place and the only difference is a popular name is thrown on it. That's it. You ever heard of the saying, "Less is Best?" That saying states volumes, the less you do, the better masterpiece you can create.
This look is very simple but yet very appealing to the eye. My black & white checkered skirt came from Ross Department Store for $8.99. Wow! What a bargain! My tank top came from Marshalls for $4.99 for a set of two, (black and white), my necklace was on sale at Burlington Coat Factory for $3.99 and of course my shoes came from the amazing online inexpensive website Lola Shoetique

Now whoever said you had to wear expensive labels to capture someone's attention clearly doesn't turn too many heads, because it's not about WHO you have on, it's about HOW you have it on to create your own style and your own art.

Color Me Crazy...Wow, it's been three weeks since I last blogged and I deeply apologize! With working two jobs and business trips it totally caught up to me! None the less I am back! ;-) Last week I attended a PR summit in the Big City that NEVER sleeps, yes- New York City. The public relations summit informed me of a lot of new things I didn't realize about marketing, branding and social media that I am very thankful for.
When you think of PR summit/conferences you think, business men/women in dull black or blue boring suits.
Negative. Brittney decided to step out of the box and give New York a taste of what it is known for; FASHION.
I decided to be very colorful on this day because of my mood. I was very excited, anxious and thrilled to have been selected to attend this summit and I wanted to stand out while I was here. My sammy dress multi-color should padded shirt set the tone of my look with a complementing turquoise skirt! Compliments after compliments were thrown my way from some of the most influential speakers. I loved every minute of it and not to mention the connections and business cards I received after. ;-)

Big City: Big Dreams...What is your dream? I remember being in college going onto my Senior year, and still wasn't sure of what my life held for me in the future. I wasn't sure which path to take or who to follow. Luckily, I was more than blessed to receive a job coming right out of college into one of the most professional, richest cities in the world. Yes, Washington, DC. Wow! What does a young woman from a small country town called Mullins, SC know about the great city of Washington, DC?

I didn't know much when I got here, but my mind didn't limit my goals and my dreams. I watched closely at others, I took notes when notes weren't supposed to be taken, I asked questions when others tried to figure it out on their own. I did what no one else thought I could do- I pushed and motivated myself.  I remember looking in the mirror into my own eyes and asking, "Who am I?"  And it was the weirdest feeling -- I suddenly felt motivated to answer that question with confidence and with pride. I knew in order to be heard and to make a difference, I had to do something different that everybody else WASN'T doing.

I put it the work. Today's look is called "Big City: Big Dreams." The name speaks for itself...A young southern woman who moved to the big city on her own with no family is quite an astonishing move, but I did it knowing I'm up here to make a difference and to make all my friends and family back home proud. Today I am wearing the H&M Vila Flare black dress, my black tote from the Kardashian Collection, Forever 21 flower necklace and my Black & Gold VAL heel from Lola Shoetique. I kept today's look quite simple but yet still appealing and professional. xoxoxoxo

I want you to share your dreams...What are your dreams? What motivates you to achieve these dreams?

Sincerely,

Brittney S. Carter

  Flower bomb...Can I detonate you?
Today's look is called "Flower Bomb" because I decided to throw on my blue brooch on with my tan/pink and green cotton dress to add a little FLAVA to my spring day. Wow, how can a simple blue brooch bring so much attention to an outfit? I'll tell you why, a brooch is a fashion decorative accessory that makes an outfit stand out even more to clothes with a rotating pin clasp located at the back of it. I haven't seen too many people wear a brooch, so here I am being different doing it.

(Special thanks to my co-worker Shakira Hemphill who gave me the brooch ;-)

Everyone knows when the time comes to be all glamorous and fabulous, the "normal" routine that we are used will be to look for a designer dress, an exquisite handbag, a knockout clutch, a hot pair of name brand heels or some beautiful jewelery. Lets try something DIFFERENT. Besides the regular accessories like necklaces, rings, bracelets, anklets, and earring, let's not forget the often overlooked brooch or even a pin, any of these spectacular items can spice up any look from classic to contemporary.

Be You. Be Different.For Less.
Sincerely,
Brittney S. Carter

Today's look I went for what is called the "Young'n Blues." Whoever said that you HAD to spend thousands of dollars on high-end name brand labels to make a statement is WRONG. Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma. Fashion is something that comes after style. I prefer to get very creative when creating outfits because I like to stand out ;-) This look is perfect if you want to spice up your day around the office; the pink heels will most definitely make your outfit POP! If you don't have a pair of pink heels, experiment with some light yellows, neon greens or turquoise for a splash of color!

No one wants to be boring in the workplace with dull dark blacks and browns, add some SPICE to your LIFE! ;-)

Have you ever looked into the mirror and wondered who is staring back at you? Or longed to finally unleash the many parts within you? Were you ever at a still point in your life, where you didn't know which route to take next? This is me. Brittney Carter; the motivated woman, the ambitious woman, the passionate woman, the sad woman, the crazy woman, the impatient woman, the curious woman – with all of these descriptions of myself jumbled up behind my public persona, behind my glam and gloss – I am just a simple woman who thrives on making her mark in the world while inspiring others along the way.

I've decided to create a blog on simple and inexpensive fashion finds! I'll provide tips on where to shop, how to shop, what to wear and what doesn't look so hot. My passion for fashion has been with me since I was 11 years old. My eye for fashion started in the 6th grade when I participated in my very first fashion show. As I matured older into high school, I turned my mother's hallway into my own personal runway. Every night before school I would create outfits and model them for her and my sister.

Obsess for Less is a reflection of my life and how I like to incorporate my many different ideas, shapes and patterns of clothing that are very inexpensive into my everyday life. Feel free to follow my blog for daily tips, ideas, comments and CHEAP fashion finds!

Sincerely,
Brittney S. Carter
